First-year programme

Mercy Bridge Family Relief & Empowerment Programme

Planned for delivery in Q4 2026 and Q1 2027, this programme aims to support approximately 100 vulnerable households facing financial hardship, isolation, reduced income, and increased caring responsibilities.

With an estimated budget between £5,000 and £50,000, it will provide immediate assistance while helping families access educational opportunities, peer connection, and relevant community resources.

Eligibility

Needs-based support for people facing hardship

Support will be available to widows, widowers, and disadvantaged children experiencing financial hardship, social disadvantage, or other significant vulnerability.

Priority will be given to people who

  1. Are widowed and experiencing financial or practical hardship.
  2. Care for dependent children and are struggling to meet essential household needs.
  3. Are disadvantaged children whose education, wellbeing, or basic needs are affected by poverty or difficult family circumstances.
  4. Have limited access to family, community, or other support.
  5. Need help with food, clothing, educational materials, household essentials, or emergency support.
  6. Meet The Mercy Bridge's safeguarding and beneficiary assessment requirements.

How applications are assessed

Each application is considered on its individual circumstances. We may consider:

  • Household income and financial circumstances
  • Number and age of dependants
  • Housing and living conditions
  • Children's educational needs
  • Available family or community support
  • Urgency of the need
  • Other relevant social or practical disadvantage

Support is not automatic. It is needs-based, subject to available funding and the charity's objects. Trustees will make decisions fairly, consistently, and without discrimination.

Nigeria assessments

The same principles apply in Nigeria. Appropriately vetted local partners or The Mercy Bridge representatives will carry out beneficiary assessments, supported by suitable records and trustee oversight.

How impact is measured

We will compare the number of households reached with our target of approximately 100 households.
